Vintage New Mexico Bronze-Colored Metal Travel Souvenir Ashtray/Trinket Dish, Good Condition
This listing is for a vintage 1950's - 1960's travel souvenir ashtray or tray commemorating the State of New Mexico featuring Taos Indian Village, Navajo Weavers, Hoop Dancers and Carlsbad Caverns.  In the mid twentieth century, Americans took to the highways and skies exploring a vast country.  Travel souvenirs of all sorts were sold to eager visitors.  Perhaps among the more colorful and ornate items offered were the chrome plated metal ashtrays or trinket dishes manufactured in post-war Japan.  These hand-painted trays were once common but today only a small fraction survive 75 years or so of use and handling.
Measuring about 5”’ wide by 4” tall, this collectable souvenir paying homage to the State of New Mexico is in good condition with some discoloration and staining, light pitting, and some waviness to the ornate scrollwork edge.  This vintage mid-century tobacciana ashtray is marked ‘Made in Japan’.  A nice addition to any collection!
I recently acquired 50+ vintage chrome plated souvenir ashtrays and trinket dishes from an estate in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
