Description
Vintage 1960s 1970s KINKAKUJI Silk ? Tourist SCARF Golden Temple JAPAN Souvenir ...Box 21: kinkakujiApprox. 28" x 29". Probably a Souvenir or Tourist purchased item from Japan in the 60s or 70s. No labels, no info. Feels like Silk, but I don't know for sure. Looks like the hem is hand rolled and stitched, but not certain. The other two sides of the scarf are selvedge. The side opposite of the painted design has age spots and discoloration. I don't think the design is hand painted, but maybe screen printed? Unknown. Depicts the Kinkakuji (Golden Temple) or Kinkaku-ji temple,. It is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. One of the most popular buildings in Kyoto, attracting many visitors annually. The top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Only one section of the scarf has a design. I've seen this before, but I'm not sure why this done, unless it's meant to be folded a certain way and worn as a scarf?
PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS AND READ "CONDITION" BELOW BEFORE PURCHASE.
CONDITION:
This scarf has some stains and soiling along the opposite edge from the design. Is slightly age darkened and may have some tiny age spots in other places. There are some paint transfer from when it was made, I don't think it's handpainted, unknown if the edge is hand-rolled and hemmed, looks like it might be. I think it's Silk, but I could be wrong. **The precise color of the items may vary depending on the specific monitor, the settings and the lighting conditions. The item's color as depicted in this listing should only be used as a guide, as your monitor may show the colors differently.Vintage items are not perfect.
