    Description

    Superbly hand carved Edwardian Whitby Jet floral brooch pin.
    For auction is a lovely example ofhand carved Whitby Jet dating to around the mid 19
    th
    century.  If you look at the shape of the rose, you cansee it has many of the features of the stylized rose so favored by the earlierVictorian works.  There is no questionthis is actual Jet and not some imitation. This is in near perfect condition. The carvings have no damage at all. There is a minor fleabite to the edge where the carved center sectionmeets the polished surround.  I didn’tsee it until I looked at the entire piece under a loop.  The brooch measures 1.5” x 1.25”approximately.
