    Description

This is a rare souvenir program (with an original ticket stub) from the January 23rd, 1993 Original Cast Reunion Concert of the groundbreaking STEPHEN SONDHEIM and GEORGE FURTH musical comedy "COMPANY" at the Civic Auditorium in Long Beach, California. (The Original Broadway production opened April 26th, 1970 at the Alvin Theatre in New York City and ran for 706 performances.) ..... On January 23rd, 1993, the original cast was brought together in Long Beach, California, for a one-time-only reunion concert (subsequently repeated in New York). Hosted by ANGELA LANSBURY, Stephen Sondheim's score remained brilliant (as did the cast) with the songs stitched together by narration provided by GEORGE HEARN. The cast included DEAN JONES as "Robert", ELAINE STRITCH, BARBARA BARRIE, CHARLES KIMBROUGH, JOHN CUNNINGHAM, TERI RALSTON, GEORGE COE, BETH HOWLAND, STEVE ELMORE, STANLEY GROVER, CHARLES BRASWELL, PAMELA MYERS, DONNA McKECHNIE, ALICE CANNON and SUSAN BROWNING ..... The evening was dedicated to the memory of three men who were instrumental in the musical's success: Choreographer MICHAEL BENNETT, Stage Manager FRITZ HOLT and LARRY KERT, who replaced Dean Jones shortly after the Broadway opening ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM ("A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum", "West Side Story", "Gypsy", "Follies", "Merrily We Roll Along", "A Little Night Music", "Do I Hear a Waltz?", "Sweeney Todd", "Pacific Overtures", "Sunday in the Park With George", "Into the Woods", "Passion", "Assassins"); Book by GEORGE FURTH; Orchestrations by JONATHAN TUNICK; Musical Direction by JOHN McDANIEL; Musical Staging by GEORGE MARTIN; Produced and Directed by BARRY BROWN; Original Production Produced and Directed by HAROLD PRINCE ..... DETAILS: The oversized 30 page program measures 8 1/2" X 11" inches and includes full production credits, photos and bios of each actor and member of the creative team, an anecdote from STEPHEN SONDHEIM, a conversation with GEORGE FURTH, a remembrance from HAL PRINCE, list of musical numbers and a reproduced "Saturday Review" cover from June 13th, 1970 .... BONUS: Includes a loose ticket stub from the January 23rd, 1993 performance (shown in the first scanned image) .....
