    Description

    This is a rare
press photograph of SHIRLEY JONES, star of the new
RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II motion picture
"OKLAHOMA!" which would be shown in Paris in the spring as part of America's "Salute to France" program. Based on the groundbreaking Broadway musical which
opened March 31st, 1943 at New York's St. James Theatre and ran for 2212 performances, the film
starred SHIRLEY JONES (in her film debut) and GORDON MacRAE and featured GLORIA GRAHAME, GENE NELSON, CHARLOTTE GREENWOOD, ROD STEIGER, EDDIE ALBERT and JAMES WHITMORE.
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein personally oversaw the film to prevent the studio from making changes of the kind that were then typical of stage-to-film musical adaptations—such as putting in new songs by different composers
..... CREDITS: Music by RICHARD RODGERS; Book and Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN 2nd based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by LYNN RIGGS.
