    This is a rare December 8th, 1947 playbill commemorating the 2000th performance of the groundbreaking RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy "OKLAHOMA!" at the St. James Theatre in New York City. (The production opened March 31st, 1943 and ran for 2212 performances.) ..... The musical starred CELESTE HOLM as "Ado Annie", returning to the cast for three weeks to celebrate the landmark 2000th performance. Others in the cast included WILTON CLARY, MAREK WINDHEIM, MARY HATCHER, RUTH WESTON, BRUCE HAMILTON, JAMES PARNELL, OWEN MARTIN, FLORENZ AMES, ALICIA KRUG, VLADIMIR KOSTENKO and BORIS RUNANIN ..... CREDITS: Music by RICHARD RODGERS; Book and Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by LYNN RIGGS. (This was the first collaboration for Rodgers and Hammerstein who would go on to write "Carousel", "The King and I", "South Pacific", "Flower Drum Song" and "The Sound of Music" among others); Sets designed by LEMUEL AYERS; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by AGNES de MILLE; Directed by ROUBEN MAMOULIAN; Produced by THE THEATRE GUILD ..... DETAILS: This 36 page playbill measures 6 1/2" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors, but no cast photos .....
