    Title
Platinum Emperor Showa 77th Birthday Fountain Pen 18k M nib - New and Unused
    Product Description
Up for sale is a rare Platinum silver handmade “Phoenix” fountain pen released in 1978.  This pure silver hand carved fountain pen is also known as “Big Shine”.  This pen has never appeared in Platinum catalogue in 1978 as the pen is made in limited number and is available to those who were borned in 1901 through special ordering. 1901 was the year when Emperor Hirohito was borned.  While Hirohito was a controversial character due to his involvement in World War II, he was widely credited for leading the modernisation of Japan in 1960-70s.
In Japan, turning 77 is a major milestone is a person’s life.  It is termed “Kijyu”, which is a highly honoured event in Japan.  Japanese who were borned in the same year as the Emperor Showa was therefore given the honour to own the pen, made to commemorate Emperor Showa’s 77th birthday.
The pen was hand made by the famed silver and goldsmith master Obuchi Mitsumori of Obuchi Genki.  Obuchi Genki is renowned for their intricate pure silver and gold sculpture artwork.  The name "Big Shine" is the name of their famous line of pure silver hand carved Japanese teapots.
The pen comes with two phoenixes facing each other, surrounded by clouds.  Phoenix in Japan represents immortality as it is believed to live forever, and is used to symbolise 77th birthday.  Each feature of the bird's long tail is intricately craved and the Obuchi logo can be seen below the phoenixes.  Master Obuchi Mitsumori had also craved the celebratory event (i.e. Emperor's birthday) between the tails of the two phoenixes.  The clouds above and below the phoenixes were made by a special mould that was acid etched and pressed into the silver.  These clouds have incredibly tight etched marks giving the pen a wonderful texture.  The nib of the pen was made with 18k white gold to match with the silver coloured of the pen.  There is no information how many of such pens were made but the number was known to be low.  To own a pen commemorating an historical character in this world and one that was made by Master Obuchi Mitsumori who is a living master silver and goldsmith in Japan, this is definitely a amazing addition to your fountain pen collection.
This pen comes with its all its original boxes and papers as well as cartridges.  This gorgeous fine writing instrument is in pristine condition and has never been used.  However, due to long time in storage, there are some signs of wear and tear on the boxes as well as tarnishes and light scratches on the pen.
