Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare November 13th, 1950 program (playbill) from the one-week, Pre-Broadway engagement of the new HAROLD ROME and ARNOLD AUERBACH musical revue "BLESS YOU ALL" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open December 13th, 1950 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City and close after only 84 performances.) ..... The musical starred JULES MUNSHIN, MARY McCARTY, PEARL BAILEY and VALERIE BETTIS and featured JOAN MERRILL (replaced out-of-town by JANE HARVEY), GARRY DAVIS, GENE BARRY, BYRON PALMER, CHARLENE HARRIS, LEE BARNETT, ROBERT CHISHOLM, DONALD SADDLER and NOEL GORDON ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by HAROLD ROME ("Destry Rides Again", "Fanny", "Pins and Needles", "I Can Get It For You Wholesale", "Wish You Were Here"); Sketches by ARNOLD AUERBACH; Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by HELEN TAMIRIS; Directed by JOHN C. WILSON; Produced by HERMAN LEVIN and OLIVER SMITH ..... DETAILS: The four page playbill measures 6" X 9 1/4" inches, is printed on a brown newsprint stock and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a frayed edge at the top, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. These items will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
