I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare December 25th, 1947 "Playtime" playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the JEROME ROBBINS, HUGH MARTIN, JEROME LAWRENCE and ROBERT E. LEE musical comedy "LOOK, MA, I'M DANCIN'!" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production would open January 29th, 1948 at the Adelphi Theatre in New York City and run for 188 performances.) ..... The musical starred NANCY WALKER (shown in the cover photo) and featured HAROLD LANG, JANET REED, ALICE PEARCE, BILL SHIRLEY (whose role was eliminated in Boston), LOREN WELCH, VIRGINIA GORSKI, DON LIBERTO, TOMMY RALL, KATHARINE SERGAVA, ROBERT H. HARRIS, ALEXANDER MARCH and SANDRA DEEL ..... CREDITS: Conceived by JEROME ROBBINS; Book by JEROME LAWRENCE and ROBERT E. LEE; Music and Lyrics by HUGH MARTIN ("Best Foot Forward", "Make a Wish", "High Spirits", "Meet Me In St. Louis"); Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by JOHN PRATT; Directed and Choreographed by GEORGE ABBOTT and JEROME ROBBINS; Produced by GEORGE ABBOTT ..... DETAILS: The 16 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Horrible, Horrible Love" and "Let's Do a Ballet" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge and surface wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
