MEITO bowl made in Japan for sales in the United States.  Japanese artists, and manufacturers following the war, were employed by many of the new Japanese / American companies developed / guided by Douglas MacArthur and W. Edwards Deming's program to re-build the Japanese economy following WWII.
This is an example of the items they produced for distribution in the States.
Beautiful depiction of a Japanese ship on the water near land during sunrise? sunset?  Wonderful detail in the painting especially when one takes its size into consideration!  Normal aging to the gilt and parts of the painting.  see and enlarge all pictures.
