    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare autographed May 2nd, 1960 "On Stage" playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the LIONEL BART and LAURIE JOHNSON Lusty London Musical "LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS!" at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (A huge success in London in 1959, the production failed miserably in the States, opening April 27th, 1960 at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut and closing May 7th, 1960 in Boston.) ..... The musical starred HY HAZELL, HARRY LOCKE and FREDERICK JEAGER and featured JOHN MICHAEL KING, GEORGE S. IRVING, NANCY DUSSAULT, BRENDAN BARRY, ROBIN WENTWORTH, NORMAN BARRS, FRANCIS COMPTON, CHARLES MacDANIELS and ELIZABETH HUBBARD ..... Note: The front cover has been signed by cast members HY HAZELL, NANCY DUSSAULT and FRANCIS COMPTON and by Musical Director MAX GOBERMAN ..... CREDITS: Music by LAURIE JOHNSON; Book adapted by BERNARD MILES from the comedy "Rape Upon Rape" by HENRY FIELDING; Lyrics by LIONEL BART ("Oliver!", "Blitz", "Lock Up Your Daughters", "Maggie May", "Fings Ain't Wot They Used T' Be", "Twang", "La Strada"); Sets designed by LLOYD BURLINGAME from the Original London Production designed by SEAN KENNY; Costumes designed by FRED VOELPEL; Choreographed by RHODA LEVINE; Musical Direction by MAX GOBERMAN; Directed by ALFRED DRAKE; Produced by DOUGLAS CRAWFORD by arrangement with THE MERMAID THEATRE ..... DETAILS: The 16 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors, but no cast photos ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing to some inside pages, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard ..... SHIPPING DISCOUNTS: Check my "Other Items" for additional rare Broadway playbills and other theatre related memorabilia. Multiple purchases qualify for shipping discounts when all items are combined into a single payment. Please wait for a revised invoice before sending payment ..... THANKS !!!
