    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills and programs from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare November 3rd, 1970 program from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the musical flop "LOVELY LADIES, KIND GENTLEMEN" at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, California. (The production would open December 28th, 1970 at the Majestic Theatre in New York City and close after only 16 performances.) ..... Based on VERN J. SNEIDER's Pulitzer Prize winning book "THE TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON", the musical starred KENNETH NELSON, RON HUSMANN, BERNIE WEST (who would be replaced out-of-town by DAVID BURNS) and ELEANOR CALBES and featured REMAK RAMSAY, LOU WILLS, DAVID STEELE, LORI CHINN, TISA CHANG, JUNE ANGELA, SACHI SHIMIZU, ALVIN LUM, DAVID THOMAS, SAB SHIMONO, JIM WESTON, STEPHEN BOLSTER and KIRK NORMAN ..... CREDITS: Book by JOHN PATRICK; Music and Lyrics by STAN FREEMAN ("I Had a Ball") and FRANKLIN UNDERWOOD; Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by FREDDY WITTOP; Choreographed by MARC BREAUX; Directed by LAWRENCE KASHA; Produced by HERMAN LEVIN ..... DETAILS: The oversized 64 page program measures approx. 8 3/8" X 11" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers, individual photos and bios of each of the leading actors and bios of each member of the creative team as well as four production photos ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "All That has Happened" and "Suddenly Now" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor edge wear, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
