    This is a rare June 29th, 1953 playbill from the Washington Music Festival production of the GEORGE and IRA GERSHWIN, GEORGE S. KAUFMAN and MORRIE RYSKIND musical comedy revival "OF THEE I SING" at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Washington, D.C. (This production followed the Broadway revival at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City which opened May 5th, 1952 and ran for 72 performances.) ..... The original production of the Gershwin's "OF THEE I SING" opened December 26th, 1931 at New York's Music Box Theatre and was the first musical awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The groundbreaking show was one of the first Broadway productions to deal with the serious subject of American politics, satirizing inept politicians with limited vision and the ignorant voters who elected them .....
