This is a beautiful July 2011 playbill from the three-month, West Coast engagement of the Tony Award winning Sir ELTON JOHN and LEE HALL musical "BILLY ELLIOT" at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, California. (The San Francisco engagement opened June 27th, 2011 and ended September 17th, 2011. The Original Broadway production opened November 13th, 2008 at the Imperial Theatre in New York City and ran for 1312 performances.) ..... Winner of 10 Tony Awards, the musical alternated ETHAN FULLER, KYLEND HETHERINGTON, LEX ISHIMOTO, DANIEL RUSSELL and J. P. VIERNES in the title role and starred FAITH PRINCE as "Mrs. Wilkinson". Others in the cast included RICH HEBERT, PATTI PERKINS, JEFF KREADY, JOEL BLUM, GRIFFIN BIRNEY, JACOB ZELONKY, RACHEL MRACNA, MAXIMILIEN A. BAUD, BEVERLY WARD and PATRICK WETZEL. The music is by Sir ELTON JOHN with book and lyrics by LEE HALL (who wrote the film's screenplay). The musical revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the eighties' coal miners' strike in Northern England. Hall's screenplay was inspired in part by A. J. Cronin's novel,The Stars Look Down
, and the musical's opening song is an homage. It was directed by STEPHEN DALDRY and choreographed by PETER DARLING, as was the original film .....
