    Description

This is a rare seven panel postcard set used to promote ticket sales for the
Original West End production of the Sir ELTON JOHN and LEE HALL musical "BILLY ELLIOT" at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London. (The production opened on May 11th, 2005 and closed April 9th, 2016 after 4600 performances.) ..... With music by Sir ELTON JOHN and book and lyrics by LEE HALL (who wrote the film's screenplay), the musical revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the eighties' coal miners' strike in Northern England. Hall's screenplay was inspired in part by A. J. Cronin's novel,
    The Stars Look Down
, and the musical's opening song is an homage. It was directed by STEPHEN DALDRY and choreographed by PETER DARLING, as was the original film ..... LIAM MOWER, JAMES LOMAS and GEORGE MAGUIRE were the original actors who alternated in the title role, and the supporting cast included HAYDN GWYNNE as Mrs. Wilkinson, ANN EMERY as "Grandma", JOE CAFFREY as "Tony" (Billy's brother) and TIM HEALY as Billy's father ..... CREDITS: Music by Sir ELTON JOHN; Book and Lyrics by LEE HALL; Sets designed by IAN MacNEIL; Costumes designed by NICKY GILLIBRAND; Choreographed by PETER DARLING; Directed by STEPHEN DALDRY; Produced by Working Title Films, Old Vic Productions and David Furnish
..... DETAILS: The seven cards are folded in a set and connected at a perforated edge. Each postcard measures 4" X 5 7/8" inches, they're printed on a heavy, glossy card stock and include different images from the show with an excerpt from one of several London newspapers in the top left corner. Two of the seven cards provide promotional text, booking information and the lyrics to "Electricity" ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, these postcards are in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This set will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
