This is a rare programme (playbill) from the nine-week engagement of the WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE classic "OTHELLO" at the Royal Princess' Theatre in London. (The production opened January 24th, 1881 and ran through March 26th, 1881, before transferring to the Lyceum Theatre.) ..... The play starred the legendary Shakespearean actor EDWIN BOOTH alternating in the roles of "Othello" and "Iago" and featured JOHN BEAUCHAMP, JOHN RYDER, C. W. CHAMBERLAIN, P. C. BEVERLEY, WILLIAM REDMOND, F. CHARLES, C. W. GARTHORNE, JOHN GARDINER, Mr. DARTON, HENRY FORRESTER and Miss MAUD MILTON as "Desdemona" ..... CREDITS: Book by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE; Sets designed by CHARLES BROOKE; Costumes designed by SAMUEL MAY; Produced and Directed by EDWIN BOOTH ..... DETAILS: The four page program measures 5" X 6 1/8" inches, is printed on a heavy card stock and includes production credits, cast list and synopsis of scenes, but no cast photos or bios. CONDITION: With the exception of light soiling to the covers and the start of a split at the bottom seam, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian.
