Description
This type of 19th century jewelry is considered rare. It resembles black crepe fabric and was fashioned during the 1870s and 1880s. Glass crepe stone (or crape stone) was also often used in mourning jewelry. This antique Victorian 2 5/16” by 3/8” figural brooch is, of all things, perhaps fashioned as a rounders bat with balls. The balls are made in two halves of crepe stone and are pegged into the bat's top surface which has a high polish. The bat's sides are matte and textured. The antique c-clasp is brass. Very good antique condition.
