Description

A beautiful, antique Victorian, banded agate brooch from the Mid 19th Century.
The semi translucent, glossy stone is beautiful and has an overall deep chocolate color. The layers in various shades of brown and amber form a chevron like pattern, highlighted by bands of slate gray. Additional colors, layers and patterns are are illuminated depending on the light and the angle. There is a very small chip to one of the edges but it is not easily seen due to the colors of the stone. The stone is set in a thin metal bezel and the brooch measures approximately 1-1/2 inches wide and 1-1/4 inches tall.
This brooch dates to the mid 19th century, with unique hinge, clasp and pin identifiers such as a handmade tube hinge, C catch, and soldered pin which extends 1/4" after the catch.
It has started to develop a natural patina that is gorgeous. It could be cleaned or left as is at the buyer's discretion.
