(The production opened May 12th, 1919 and closed after only 48 performances.) ..... This obscure musical was created as a starring vehicle for ADELE ROWLAND, but is more significant for having two songs ("Something About Love" and "Some Wonderful Sort of Someone") contributed by GEORGE GERSHWIN, two weeks before the musical "La, La, Lucille" (Gershwin's first full score) would open at New York's Henry Miller's Theatre ..... CREDITS: (Which do not appear in the text of the postcard) Book and Lyrics by ANNE CALDWELL adapted from the German of JULIUS BRAMMER and ALFRED GRUNWALD; Music by ROBERT WINTERBERG; Featuring Songs by GEORGE GERSHWIN ("Girl Crazy", "Lady, Be Good!", "Oh, Kay!", "Funny Face", "Rosalie", "Of Thee I Sing", "Porgy and Bess", "George White's Scandals") and WALTER DONALDSON; Featuring Songs with Lyrics by IRVING CAESAR and LOU PALEY; Sets designed by JOSEPH A. PHYSIOC; Costumes designed by HICKSON, INC. LADY DUFF GORDON, ANDRE SHERRI and NAT LEWIS; Staged by FRANK SMITHSON; Produced by JOHN P. SLOCUM ..... DETAILS: The unused postcard measures 5 1/2" X 3 1/2" inches and includes two production photos and performance details on the front ..... CONDITION: With the exception of two small surface abrasions at the base of the long photo and light soiling, this rare postcard is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
