    Description

    1800s era 2 piece brass Mourning brooch. The inner, front frame pulls out from the outer frame (see photos). This may be a mourning piece because there is plenty of space behind the photo inside where they could have placed a lock of hair or other memento. The front is glass.  I cant tell if this is an early image on glass (my guess is that it is) or if there is a photograph behind the glass because it is sealed in.  Dates to sometime between the Civil War era and the end of the 1800s.  The man doesnt seem to be dressed as a soldier but rather a more formal garb.  Measures 2" by 1-5/8".  Original as found from a local estate.  Back side has some dents and the pin is missing.
