Description
B-142. [Early 1950s Occupied Japan Era Traditional SHINTO Shrine]. “Fushimi Inari-taisha is the head shrine of the kami Inari, located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.” The multi-fold brochure opens up to 12 x 16-1/2 inches. Printed in both English and Japanese languages. Captions to illustrations in same. Front side has all color photographs. Opposite side has all black & white photos and a Map of the Shrine.Color photographs include: Sacred Music and Dance Ceremony; Aerial of the Thousand Tories; and Ceremonies and Festivals. Black and white photos show: Layout map of entire Shrine; the Big Tori; Tea house; the Main Building; the Gate Tower; the Thousand Tories. The map has 12 b/w small photos showing the different Tories, etc. Stated in text: “Since August 19, 1953 it has been renamed Inari Shrine, a religious body corporate.”
(Brochure was purchased at an Estate Sale of US Army Officer who was stationed in Japan in the 1950s.) CONDITION: Light corner and edge wear, soiling – Very Good condition.
